My central thesis, laid out in my article, Immersive Cinema is Ready for its Close-Up, is that this new format is also giving birth to a new cinematic language, one that lives in a hybrid space somewhere between the proscenium arch and the screen.

This new language has enormous potential (yet to be fully realized) for creating dramatic narratives with an incredible emotional depth and powerful sense of presence.

When you are engaging with an immersive cinematic experience, it can have the uncanny effect of making you feel you are actually inside the story, and not just observing it.

We’re at the “wet clay” stage of this emerging language, and it’s an incredibly exciting time to be both writing about, and participating in, the creation of a new medium.
